Deep Inside . The 5th Moscow International Biennale For Young Art, Moscow, Russia. Curated by Nadim Samman
Wood, found objects, fabric, wire and tape
800x15x5 cm
This is an extended edition that was made for the 5th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art. The ‘shanks’ are ad hoc knives or improvised weapons, commonly created in prisons from found materials. The objects are placed on a narrow shelf, with the pointed part of the tools directed towards the abdominal area of the viewer. The name refers to the ancient city of Jericho, where archeological findings from ancient times are attributed to the first tools of civilisation.
